to be aware of the refuge boundaries. Maps can be obtained at
the Fisheries & Wildlife office (below the dam)or at the
State Park (on the lake side). |

150 Canada geese present but still no Snow Geese.
Numbers and presence of birds can change daily. Birds are more
likely to be present when smaller local bodies of water freeze
up. |

Goose Seasons: Canada Goose Nov.7 thru Feb. 17, 2008. White
Fronts Nov. 7 thru Jan 6, 2008 and Feb. 9 thru 17th, 2008. Light
Geese Nov. 7 thru Feb. 17th, 2008.

a day or a few days and then depart again. |

No snow geese present when report was updated. Report will
not be updated unless significant numbers of snow geese are present
for several days.
Snow goose hunters must register before hunting and report
harvest at the end of their hunt. Boat motors are restricted--check
local regulations.
Road access to many units has changed--A and F units are
only accessible from the west via county roads. You can not exit
to the west from Hwy 69 south of the river bridge. Stay out
of construction areas.

thur Jan. 15th. All marshes are full. |
NEOSHO - Last Updated: 2/1/2008
| Waterfowl numbers |
Approximately 15,000 ducks primarily Mallards
and ringnecks. Ducks currently using all Pools. Duck numbers
are staying fairly consistant even with dropping temperatures
and ocassional freeze up. Approximately 1500 Canada Geese. |

Currently, huntable water acres in the hunting
pools are as follows: Pool 1 = 350, Pool 2 = 250, Pool 4 = 175,
Pool 5 = 65. Currently no water is being pumped. Boats can cross
low water crossings in pool 1 but should use caution when doing
so. Refuge pool is 10" low. |

Hunting pools are currently open. Highs in the
40's expected for the weekend may offer some good goose hunting. |

Fair. Waterfowl are beginning to leave the wildlife
area during the day to feed on private agricultural fields. Hunter
success for this seasonwas 7282 ducks harvested with 3597 hunters
for a 2.02 birds/hunter average which represents the 5th best
season on record for Neosho Wildlife Area. Please be courteous
of your fellow hunters and allow ample space between spreads
to prevent accidents. |

Regular Waterfowl season is closed. White Fronted Goose
season is now closed and will reopen on Feb 9, 2008. Canada Goose
and Snow Goose season open until Feb 17, 2008.
Permits will be available at information center next to
check statoin during the second segment.
ALL WATERFOWL HUNTERS ARE STILL REQUIRED TO FILL OUT AND
RETURN DAILY PERMITS AVAILABLE AT THE MAIN CHECKSTATION.
Waterfowl hunting in Pool 8 is restricted to youth hunters
and their mentor on weekends and holidays. Waterfowl hunting
at the South Unit ends at 1 PM daily. Waterfowl numbers and habitat
conditions can change on a daily basis. Hunters are encouraged
to contact the wildlife area by calling 620-449-2539 for updated
conditions on the answering machine. For upcoming projects
