BYRON WALKER WILDLIFE AREA/KINGMAN STATE

Duck and dark goose season is closed. Limited,
most of the area water will be frozen. |

Hunters using Byron Walker Wildlife Area
ARE REQUIRED to pick up a free hunting permit
from one of the 18 orange permit stations on the area prior
to hunting. These permits take just a few moments to fill out
and the information gained from them will provide important statistics
to be used in the future management of the area. Direction for
using the permits are located at the orange permit stations.
Both halves of the permit must be turned in to satisfy
posted requirements. |

mergansers); 5,400 geese; more snows starting to show up. 48

A lot of (unsafe) ice. Most waterfowl observed
in open water out in the middle of the Reservoir. 48 bald eagles
observed sitting on the ice. Remember the Refuge boundary on
the water. Boundary is indicated on our maps. |

Low Plains Late Duck Zone and Dark Goose seasons are CLOSED.
Light goose conservation order is in effect through April
30.
Flooding that persisted through May 2007, followed by full
lake levels through early August, have prevented establishment
of food producing annual plants. As such few food resources are
available for waterfowl along the lake edge.
The newly developed Gilmore Creek Wetland Project has been
completed but is dry. Please see the Council Grove Wildlife Area
" News" web page for more information about
this project.

under repair this year. So, the pools will not be filled. |
MCPHERSON VALLEY WETLANDS - Last
Updated: 3/14/2008
| Waterfowl numbers |
Goose numbers have dwindled. Approximately 1,000 snows and
blues. Be careful, dark geese and a couple swans mixed in with
light geese.
Less than 8,000 ducks including most species common in the
central flyway.
Excellent opportunities for waterfowl viewing in full plumage.

Duck and dark goose season is currently closed.
Light Geese - fair to good.
Season results: 3,078 hunters have harvested 3,078
ducks (highest on record), 142 geese, and 386 pheasants (as of
Thursday 2/25).

Refuge boundaries changed last year. Both Refuges are now
closed to hunting. For refuge locations, please see the link
McPherson Wetlands brochure and map on the McPherson Wetlands
web page for these changes or contact the area office for more
information at (620)-241-7669.
All hunters must pick up and fill out free daily hunting permits
located at all the parking lots on the area. These permits must
be carried with you while hunting at MPWL, and returned to the
permit boxes once hunting activities are complete for the day.
Also, all shotgun hunters at McPherson Wetlands are required
to use non-toxic shot for all hunting. This includes upland birds.
Keep in mind, during and after rain events, makes area roads
very greasy. Please use caution and good judgement before entering
these roadways.

Duck Late zone opens again on January 19 - January 27, 2008.
Remember to use only non-toxic shot and don't have any toxic
shot in your possession.

The Reservoir is ice free . Remember the Refuge

1st of 2008. Late Zone duck season is CLOSED. Dark Goose season
is CLOSED . Conservation season for Light Geese is currently
open and will run through April 30th, 2008. 79 Eagles were observed
2/20/08. |
