There is a new product out that some of you ice fishermen just have to have. I was lucky enough to try one when we had ice on Cheney that one Saturday the first part of December. I had my most enjoyable ice trip ever, even though the fishing was tough. OK, OK enough with the suspence. The product is called the easy auger and you can only get it from Zeiner's Angler Supply. I was skeptic at first to tell you the truth. But this product is the coolest thing since the carolina rig. It is an adapter that connects your hand auger to your cordless drill motor. I drilled 20 holes through 4 inches of ice and zipped right through it like it was butter. I noticed no drain in my drill motor battery even after the last hole. Read Complete Story

-- In the spring of 2005, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) launched the Community Fisheries Assistance Program (CFAP). Using matching funds from federal excise taxes on fishing equipment and motor boat fuel, the department began offering leases for fishing rights to the state's 221 community lakes. Most municipalities with community lakes signed on immediately, enabling them to eliminate fees formerly charged for angler access. The result was that fees for anglers on nearly 14,000 acres of water were removed. Read Complete Story

Kansas anglers reap benefits of license and equipment purchases

November 10, 2005 - PRATT -
- The year 2005 is winding down, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has completed its yearly stocking of fish raised in state hatcheries at Farlington, Meade, Milford, and Pratt. The results are impressive. Approximately 64.5 million predaceous fish -- including intermediate (5-8 inches), fingerling (1 1/2 inches), and fry (newly-hatched) -- were stocked in the state's waters. Almost 3 million channel catfish fry, 361,000 intermediates, 720,000 fingerlings, and 1,600 adult channel catfish were stocked. In addition, 1.1 million bluegill and 1.2 million redear sunfish were stocked. Read Complete Story

BOATERS BEWARE OF LOW WATER
Drought has exposed hazards on many reservoirs
PRATT -August 4, 2005-
While reservoirs in eastern portions of Kansas
are currently holding water at normal levels, drought conditions
across much of the rest of the state require that boaters be
especially cautious. Large reservoirs in northcentral and
northwestern Kansas range from 5 to 25 feet low, and continued
irrigation and dry conditions will worsen without substantial
rainfall. As a result, hazards such as tree stumps, old bridge
frames, road beds, buildings, or rock ledges are now closer to the

After last week's FLW Tour event on Alabama's Wheeler Lake, Greg Hackney once again takes over as the No. 1-ranked angler in the world.

In the last edition of the State Farm World Rankings, Hackney had only been a little over 2 World Rankings points behind former No. 1 angler Marty Stone. The Kansas paddlefish season began March 15 and runs through May 15, but snaggers may not have much success until eastern Kansas receives spring rains and rivers rise. Largemouth Bass Virus (LMBV) Fact Sheet

1. What is Largemouth Bass Virus?
It is one of more than 100 naturally occurring viruses that affect fish but not warm-blooded animals. Origin is unknown, but it is related to a virus found in frogs and other amphibians and nearly identical to a virus isolated in fish imported to the U.S. for the aquarium trade. Although the virus is carried by other fish species, to date, it has produced disease only in largemouth bass. Scientists do not know how the virus is transmitted or how it is activated into disease. In addition, they know of no cure or preventative, as is commonly the case with viruses. Read Complete Story
